Last year, I turned 25.
The idea of it haunted me. There isn’t any perks to turning 25 other than cheaper car insurance and getting to attempt “What’s Up” by the 4 Non Blondes during karaoke night. The only real milestone you have as a young,thriving adult is assessing the fact whether or not you are indeed a young, thriving adult.
Lincoln Amphitheatre will be taking the leap to this milestone this year by turning 25 in June. I don’t think Lincoln Amphitheatre will be going through the same type of self-assessment us humans go through…but business or person, there is still “some” perk to turning a quarter of a century old.
In Lincoln Amphitheatre’s case, it’s a brand new logo!
I wouldn’t say that is Lincoln Amphitheatre’s only perk to turning 25. There is a lot to look forward to during it’s 25th year: four theatrical productions and the second annual Trail of Terror.
I would consider Lincoln Amphitheatre as a young, thriving adult… much like myself. :0)

I’ve got two tickets in my pocket…
Not like Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, but kind of.
And yes, that book does bring a tear to my eye everytime I revisit it (Of course, ONLY while reading it to my nieces not for own enjoyment).
While working inside Lincoln State Park, I realized there is not just one giving tree, but many giving trees. And the ones on Lincoln State Park all attribute to southern Indiana’s natural beauty to make many, well, happy.
The Spring/Summer Tree
The Fall Tree
The Winter Tree
And the tree was happy…
…The Singing Hoosiers perform.
Lincoln Amphitheatre will be hosting the Singing Hoosiers for the first time on Sunday, October 9. The group is approx. a 99 member group of talented students ranging from music to chemistry majors.
The Singing Hoosiers have performed with many legendary entertainers over the years including but not limited to Bob Hope, Alan Sherman, Red Buttons, Tony Bennett, Duke Ellington, and Hoagy Charmichael.
In 1995, they had the honor to sing at Carnegie Hall, and just this past May, they performed at Hong Kong.
But did I mention they aren’t the only group singing at Lincoln Amphitheatre on October 9? The Spencer County High School Choir Groups,(the county Lincoln Amphitheatre is in) Heritage Hills and South Spencer, will perform as a pre-show.

Well, her name in real life is Bella.
The actress, er dog, playing Toto in “The Wizard of Oz” is a, five-year old Border Collie.
I know, I know…the original Toto wasn’t a Border Collie but she is just as loveable.
Our Glinda the Good Witch, actress Alaxandra Traylor, is Bella’s mommy.
And she told me Bella’s (Toto’s) amazing miracle story:
“Bella was hit by a car. I left her with a pet sitter while I was working one day, and they were playing frisbee outside with her, and the wind blew it into the road. She ran straight for it, and didn’t even look. A van hit her head on. Her pelvis was cracked in 3 place, a hip was out of place, and her bladder was thrown off of where it sits in the pelvis, and needed to be re-attatched. They told me to put her down, but when she came out of surgery, she was alert, and herself. I couldn’t do it. They said it would be a slippery slope for her to recover. but not only did she recover, she was walking 2 weeks later. She still has a slight limp, but she has not lost her zest for life. She’s my little miracle puppy!”
Bella isn’t a rookie on stage. She played Sandy in Annie as Alax played Mrs. Hannigan. Another little quirk about Bella….well, she is a Border Collie by breed…
but she hates cows.
In order to get Bella to bark on command as Toto, the actors have to moo on stage very softly.
Oh, but she loves squirrels. She has been known to run to the nearest window just to find one.
Bella will make her official debut on Lincoln Amphitheatre’s stage on July 21 in “The Wizard of Oz” as Toto.
Alax cracks, “Bella’s on stage more than I am!”
Here Mooto, ahh..Toto.

Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it like Rudolph…
This week in the Adventures of Bobblehead Abe, per suggestions from our Facebook Fans, he visited Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort, which is four miles down the road from Lincoln Amphitheatre.
He had a great time….(especially riding around in the golf carts from place to place.)
First…he decided he was going to go paddleboat riding…
It’s hard to paddleboat when you are a bobblehead.
Lake Rudolph will be opening 25 new Christmas Cabins very soon, and Abe just insisted to scope out the construction site.
After a long, hot day of touring the grounds, nothing like finishing it up with a little R & R by the pool.
Er…I mean Santa Claus?
Abe traveled four miles to the town of Santa Claus, Indiana,to tour the charming Santa Claus Museum about the magic and history about the town and man.
Abe…You’re the president not present, silly…
Abe tried to send himself in the mail to Santa…but he didn’t quite fit.
This feels like home.
Happy Birthday, Walt Whitman!
Today marks the 192nd anniversary of the birth of one of America’s most influential poets, Walt Whitman.
You might ask yourself what does a poet have to do with Lincoln history?
Well….
He was quite fond of President Lincoln, and often symbolized the events of the Civil War and President Lincoln in his writings.
After John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Lincoln, Whitman used poetry to expose his feelings about the death of the fallen President.
In the poem, “O Captain! My Captain!,” President Lincoln is symbolized as the ships captain.
O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weathered every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
- But O heart! heart! heart!
- O the bleeding drops of red,
- Where on the deck my Captain lies,
- Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills;
For you bouquets and ribboned wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
- Here Captain! dear father!
- This arm beneath your head;
- It is some dream that on the deck,
- You’ve fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
The ship is anchored safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;
- Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!
- But I, with mournful tread,
- Walk the deck my Captain lies,
- Fallen cold and dead.
